Jobs where a phenomenon of the industrial age. People did work for someone else and were given money for it. This was referred to as being a wage slave because your boss treated you as one.
You were not a respectable person if you did not have a job. In today's world it is getting harder to find a decent paying job because more and more of them are going to third world countries. The reason for this is that we are living in a global economy. Why pay someone $15-$20 to make something when you have someone that will do it for $5. After all you the buyer will not be willing to buy a $100 American made toaster when you can buy a $20 toaster made in China.
Its the same thing with everything you buy. Americans can't be hired to make expensive products if their fellow Americans will not buy it.
Now think a minute about this; the only reason you what a job is to get some money. The reason jobs are so popular is they offer a certain amount of security. You know when you will get paid and how much. With most other forms of income you do not always know if you will make a certain amount or exactly when you will get it. This uncertainty makes making money any other way unpalatable to most people.
Ever since money was invented there has only been one way to get some, you had to sell something. In the industrial age you sold yourself and called it a job. It is still selling. The problem we have today is that the respectability of a job created a phobia to selling and being sold. Do you see the irony in this. Now that we are entering the information age where we need to be able to sell information in order to earn a living we are struggling with this phobia we have developed.
The politicians can't stop time and more jobs will be lost that can't be replaced. The only jobs that first and second world countries can create will be high tech jobs that will require a collage degree. The problem is that there is not enough people willing to learn the cutting edge skills needed for the job. Many engineers today can't find a job because their skills are no longer needed and they refuse to learn the new skills.
If you can't find a job you need to find another way to earn a living. Preferably a legal one. Because selling is the only way to get money you need to get over your phobia to selling and find something to sell. The Internet will help you do this. Because selling on the Internet is an arms length environment, you do not have the face to face confrontation that in person selling does. On top of that there are many venues that are actually fun to do. Other activities will give you a sense of pride when you are doing something that teaches others something they need to know.
In the future most jobs will be for losers. That is not a very nice thing to say and not a very nice position to be in. But this is what will happen to people that can not change and adapt to the information age.
